Saint Francis in Hartford, Connecticut is anticipating mass layoffs. Officials at the hospital say that 200 employees will be laid off.
Representatives for hospital are citing increasing costs and not enough federal money as reasons for the layoffs.
It remains unsaid which department will be hit hardest. Patients are voicing concerns about the potential loss of doctors and nurses, claiming it may impair patient care.
“Already when we come here for patient care, you’re waiting hours, I mean five to six hours,” said patient Rita Batchelor.
The hospital’s CEO released a written statement saying, “These measures will not compromise the quality of care that we deliver each day. They will, in fact, ensure our ability to continue our promise to provide the very best care possible for our community.”
