Biomet Adding Jobs in Indiana

Biomet Inc. is expanding its headquarters in Warsaw, Ind. and adding 278 jobs by the end of 2012.The medical-device maker plans to invest $26 million to expand its research and development operations and upgrading equipment, the Associated Press reports. Additionally, the company will use the expansion to consolidate manufacturing that’s being transferred from New Jersey.
Biomet could receive up to $2.75 million in tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. for the expansion. The Kosciusko County Council has also approved 10-year tax abatements.
“Biomet was founded in Kosciusko County, Indiana,” said Jeffrey R. Binder, Biomet president and chief executive officer, in a statement, “and we are grateful that the IEDC and the Kosciusko County Council continue to support our commitment to expanding our employment and capabilities at our Warsaw headquarters.”
Biomet products are used mostly by orthopedic surgeons for things such as hip or knee replacements.
