2K Games Sheds Employees

Video game developer and publisher 2K Games on Monday announced 30 layoffs at its subsidiary, game developer Visual Concepts. In the past month, 2K has laid off employees at three studios. In addition to the 30 at Visual Concepts, 20 were laid off at Civilization 5 developer Firaxis Games and an unspecified number lost their jobs at Rockstar Games San Diego.Regarding the layoffs at Visual Concepts, Vice President of Corporate Communications Alan Lewis said, “In order to properly align its resources with its current and future goals, and to continue to develop games as efficiently as possible, 2K Sports has eliminated approximately 30 positions at its Visual Concepts studio. These reductions will not affect 2K Sports’ ability to create and deliver AAA titles, including its upcoming release of NBA 2K11.”
