The First Layoffs Since 1993’s Hit Morris County, NJ Sheriff’s Office.

Morris County’s Sheriff Office in New Jersey is likely headed for layoffs. The sheriff’s office put forth a proposal, which outlines a course of layoffs needed to compensate for the faulty economy.Personnel at the county jail will be among the first to be cut, along with employees at the county courthouse. The President of union PBA 298, officer Donald Delvecchio, told reporters that the department will likely be letting go a sergeant, two officers and one civilian. In addition to those job cuts, the search for six new officers has ended.
“We have good jobs, we have good benefits, and one year without a pay increase won’t kill anybody but we don’t think the county is negotiating,” Delvecchio told reporters announcing that the county was not going to consider options that might avoid layoffs.
Morris County’s Sheriff’s Department hasn’t held layoffs since 1993.
