Good news for Detroit Public Schools this week, another round of hundreds of previously laid off teachers have now been told they will not lose their jobs. Last week, 745 teachers were told they would keep their job. According to district spokesman Steve Wasko, another 215 teachers will have their layoffs rescinded by next week. Wasko added that more teachers might have their jobs returned depending on need and funding.
Back in April, Nearly 2,000 teachers in Detroit’s Public Schools were given layoff notices, which took effect at the end of June. The district cited enrollment issues and revenue declines as the reasons for the cuts.
However, the reversal of the layoffs was not completely unexpected. The union was aware that there would be a significant number of retirements this year, which turned out to be more than 1,000 teachers, which equaled about 20 percent of the district’s teachers.
What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
