Despite the last decade’s downward trend in airline employment, Tempe, Arizona will be welcoming 140 new jobs at the city’s US Airways headquarters.

US Airways Group Inc., founded in 1939 initially to deliver mail by air to the United States’ Midwest region with a single Stinson Reliant plane, now employs more than 30,000 people across the globe and operates more than 3,000 flights daily.  With its main headquarters in Tempe, Arizona, the airline employs almost 700 in its nine story building which was once the home for America West Airlines.

Some of the positions available at US Airways’ Tempe office are in technology including analysts, designers, and project managers.  Many management and supervisor positions are also available such as ones in financial planning.  The airline is also looking for accountants and mechanics.

US Airways stresses diversity in their workforce.  The airline states, “Together, we’re working to ensure that diversity is always the reality with us.”  And indeed, US Airways was the only airline to make the list of the 2010 report from Latina Style of the 50 best companies for Latin women to work at.  More than 800 companies were included in the magazine’s survey aimed at identifying corporations that foster the best career prospects for Latinas in the United States.
