Empire Foods, a newly-formed food-processing company in North Carolina, plans to invest $2.5 million during the next five years for a packaging plant that will create over 200 jobs.
Gov. Beverly Perdue announced Thursday the company would receive a $400,000 grant from state taxpayers to help fund the new facility. Empire Foods’ plant will make packaged fruit and vegetables that don’t need refrigeration. It will done using technology developed by North Carolina State University.
The plant will be located outside the town of Halifax. Jobs are expected to pay an average annual wage of more than $28,000. According to the Triangle Business Journal, the average annual rate in the county is $25,532.
